In this practice session, you configure UAC settings and test them while logged on as a standard user, an administrator, and the built-in Administrator. The practice session uses the user accounts you created in 4, Configuring and Troubleshooting Internet Access. To perform the practices as written, you need to have successfully completed Practices 1, 2, and 3 of 4, Configuring and Troubleshooting Internet Access, Lesson 1, Configuring and Troubleshooting Parental Controls and Content Advisor. At a minimum you need to have created one standard user account. If you want to, you can use the administrator account that you created when you installed Windows Vista. Practice 1: Adding Administrative Tools to All Programs on the Start Menu In 4, Configuring and Troubleshooting Internet Access, you added the Run command to the Start menu and accessed tools such as Local Users And Groups by opening the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) from the Run box and installing the required snap-in. Adding Administrative Tools to All Programs on the Start menu provides a more convenient method of accessing these tools. 1. Log on by using the parent_admin account that you created in 4, Configuring and Troubleshooting Internet Access. (This user s password is P@ssw0rd.) 2. Right-click the Start button, and select Properties. 3. On the Start Menu tab, click Customize. 4. Scroll down to System Administrative Tools, and select Display On The All Programs Menu, as shown in Figure 5-12.

Install the Configuration Storage server or servers and all ISA Server services on computers that are in a workgroup. Install the Configuration Storage server or servers on computers that are members in a domain and all or some of the ISA Server services on computers that are in a workgroup. For example, you can install Configuration Storage server on a domain member, install the ISA Server services for the back-end array on domain members, and then install ISA Server services for the front-end array on computers in a workgroup.

Deploying All ISA Server Components on Domain Members The easiest deployment option is to deploy all ISA Server components on computers that are members of the same domain or in trusted domains. In this scenario, you can use domain authentication for the ISA Server administrators and for all ISA Server clients. In addition, the ISA Server computers can use the domain computer accounts to authenticate with other array members and to authenticate with the Configuration Storage servers. All network traffic between ISA Server computers is encrypted and digitally signed using keys derived from the domain authentication, so you do not need to configure any certificates for ISA Server communication. The most significant limitation with deploying all ISA Server components on domain members is the concern about deploying a domain member where it can be directly accessed from the Internet. This configuration increases the risk that an attacker will be able to gain access to the domain accounts if the Internet-edge firewall is compromised. Moreover, a domain member requires that additional services are running on the server. If you deploy ISA Server on a domain member in a front-end array, you must also open additional ports on the back-end array for the server to connect to the domain controllers on the internal network. Deploying All ISA Server Components on Workgroup Members The second option is to deploy all ISA Server components on computers that are members of a workgroup. This configuration has the advantage that no domain accounts are accessible on the ISA Server computer, so even if the server is compromised in an attack, the attacker does not have access to domain resources. However, deploying all the ISA Server components on workgroup computers makes the deployment more complicated in the following ways:
